First ultrafast EV charging station in Croatia put into operation in Zagreb

14.07.2016.
In front of the building of City administration of the City of Zagreb on Stjepan Radić Square, HEP put into operation the first ELEN LEAF EV charging station. It is a prototype of the state-of-the-art EV charging station in Croatia, which is also the first charging station using solar power.

The Minister of Economy, Tomislav Panenić, Assistant Minister of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure, Alen Gospočić, Deputy Minister of Environmental and Nature Protection, Mario Šiljeg, representatives of the City of Zagreb, a member of Management Board of Hrvatska elektroprivreda, Saša Dujmić and the project manager of e-mobility project of HEP Group, Ivica Skorić attended the charging station opening.

ELEN LEAF charging station in Zagreb is the crowning achievement of HEP's development project ELEN, within which so far EV charging stations have been opened in 12 cities and 21 locations all over Croatia. The charging station was built in line with the Agreement about cooperation on a pilot project of boosting construction of electric vehicle charging infrastructure in Zagreb, signed by the City of Zagreb and Hrvatska elektroprivreda d.d.

“This charging station, unique in technology and design, represents an excellent combination of the concept of electric mobility and the use of renewable energy sources. Such a combination of ecologically acceptable technologies shows that HEP follows European and world trends of lowering CO2 emissions, prevents climate changes and protects the environment“, said Saša Dujmić, a member of the Management Board of Hrvatska elektroprivreda.

ELEN LEAF station consists of two canopies with solar panels and an ultrafast 50KV DC and 43 KW AC charging station for electric vehicles, with an option of simultaneous charging of two vehicles. The fuel for electric vehicles used in this case is the energy obtained from solar panels. With the help of solar panels ELEN LEAF station will annually generate 3,000 KWH of electricity from a renewable source (solar power).

The prototype was constructed on the basis of a competition conducted by the Croatian Designers Association, on which the work and concept design of Ana Banić Göttlicher and Maša Vukmanović was chosen. The contractor is the firm Elna kabel.

With this opening HEP continues its cooperation with cities and partners interested in broadening the network of public charging stations throughout Croatia, so as to encourage the increase in the number of electric vehicles and to improve the life in urban environment by lowering emissions of pollutants and of noise.
