The development of solar power plant (SPP) Korlat started in 2019 recognising a significant potential of the location, which was being prepared for the construction of Korlat wind warm (WF) at that time. The existing spatial planning documentation of Zadar County enabled the development of such a project, while the very location showed significant energy potential. Additionally, the location was characterized by favourable topographic conditions, and there was an option of using the same space and mutual infrastructure (grid connection, access etc.) for both facilities (WF and SPP) with an aim of optimizing investment and operational costs as well as optimizing the occupation of the location itself.
SPP Korlat is planned to cover the area of Ravni kotari in northern Dalmatia, around a kilometre north-east from Korlat village and around 7 kilometres north-west from the town of Benkovac, SPP Korlat was planned as a part of Korlat energy park (a hybrid facility including the wind farm and solar power plant). The existing road with the connection to the D27 state road provides access to the location.
The project of SPP Korlat includes the following: the construction of the solar power plant on the area covering the constructed WF Korlat, gross surface being around 150 ha, photovoltaic panels with planned installed capacity of 99 MWp, the infrastructure for the connection to 110 kV transmission grid within the existing TS 33/110 kV Korlat substation and the ancillary facility to store and manage the energy park. Planned connecting capacity of SPP Korlat on grid threshold is 75 MW. Photovoltaic panels will be installed on the construction with the single-axis solar tracking system.
The project is financed through a loan by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank.
