The EUR 9.5 million agreement on the modernization of the TPP Plomin 2 turbine signed

01.07.2016.
Thermal Power Plant Plomin d.o.o. and Alstom Hrvatska d.o.o. signed the agreement on the modernization and general overhaul of the Unit 2 turbine in Plomin thermal power plant. The EUR 9.5 million (HRK 71.7 million) agreement will include the execution of all the activities foreseen thereunder in May 2017 i.e. during the installation of the previously agreed DeNOx facility in Unit 2.

'We are exceptionally pleased with this modernization, which includes the replacement of turbine vital components. The general overhaul will focus on achieving a good technical condition of all turbine island parts so as to provide a long-lasting, safe and reliable operation as well as decreased CO2 emission.', said Mihajlo Mirković, Director of TE Plomin d.o.o.

Turbine modernization by the so-called low pressure retrofit will enable higher efficiency by improving the internal turbine efficiency and decreasing specific heat consumption, which will result in the extension of turbine lifetime by as many as 200,000 hours.
One of the most important modernization effects will be reduced coal consumption resulting in lower CO2 emission, which is in line with the environmental impact mitigating activities conducted by Plomin thermal power plant. One of these measures is the installation of the DeNOx facility for the removal of nitrogen oxides from Unit 2 flue gases during 2017 so as to harmonize the operation and gas emission with the borderline emission values set under the EU Directive until 1 January 2018.

The EUR 17.3 million DeNOx facility will be installed by the consortium consisting of Alstom Power Italia and Alstom Hrvatska. Domestic goods willl account for 34 percent while the remaining 66 percent will include cutting edge import technology, implemented for the first time in Croatia.
Under the Air Protection Act and the Regulation on the borderline values of the pollutant emissions into the air from stationary sources, the upper value of nitrogen oxide emission for the facility type such as Plomin 2 thermal power plant is limited to 200 mg/Nm3. DeNOx facility which will be installed in Plomin 2 thermal power plant is based on a selective catalytic reduction in line with the best European practice and the BAT-related European guidelines. This will limit nitrogen oxide emissions to under 80 mg/Nm3.

Almost 45 percent of all 2015 investments in Plomin 2 thermal power plant was focused on environmental protection. The HRK 18.4 million investment was made in improving turbine efficiency for the purpose of achieving lower CO2 emissions as well as in the noise protection project, the installation of LED lighting, the reconstruction of desulphurisation and electrofilters, and the replacement of the electromagnetic radiation measuring system.
