From April 18 to 21, Zagreb’s Regent Esplanade hotel was the host to the International Symposium on Transient Phenomena in Large Electric Power Systems.
The Symposium was organized by the study committees A1, A2, A3, C1 and C4 of the international CIGRE with a whole-hearted help from CIGRE Croatia as the host. Taking part in the work of Symposium were 128 participants of which 76 came from countries across the world. The purpose of the Symposium was to gather experts for forum, focused primarily on the electricity industry, who would discuss and exchange views and opinions on the nature of transient phenomena in the existing power systems and indicate what these systems need and how to plan, build and use them to achieve reliable and quality service for system users.
In addition to numerous experts from power companies, equipment manufacturers, designers, system operators, customer suppliers, representatives of regulatory bodies, taking part in the work of the Symposium were university professors, researchers from institutes and testing laboratories. Numerous distinguished guests addressed the participants and wished them a successful work, among which: Yves Filion, President of CIGRE, Željko Tomšić, Assistant Minister of Economy, Labor and Entrepreneurship, Dragomir Naumov, Minister of Energy and President of CIGRE Serbia, Krešimir Bakić, President of CIGRE Slovenia, Ivica Toljan, President of CIGRE Croatia, and Ivan Mravak, President of HEP Management Board. In his short address I. Toljan mentioned the fifteenth anniversary of CIGRE Croatia, just celebrated in February of this year: Since we became independent in 1992, a large number of symposia have been held, the number of members and sponsors has considerably increased. Our special thanks go to J. Kowal, Secretary General of CIGRE, who has been actively participating all of these years in the work of CIGRE Croatia.
