15th Croatian Energy Forum (CEF) - key to energy security is diversification of fuels and sources

08.11.2006.
The Croatian Energy Society held 15th energy forum on November 24 entitled "Energy perspectives to 2050"

For the fifteenth consecutive year, CEF has held its forums covering various topical themes important for the energy sector. Papers and presentations enable the profession and the public to keep up to date with problems, trends and experiences of other countries, said Dr. Goran Granić, CEF President in his opening address at this year`s forum. He also said that the theme of energy perspectives preoccupies the whole energy community, and because the World Energy Council has initiated a global study entitled "Energy Policy Scenario to 2050", CEF has chosen this theme for its 15th forum with a focus on Croatia in Europe and Europe in world-wide processes.
"What has been achieved and what new challenges are there in Croatia`s energy strategy" is the paper presented by Dr. Goran Granić. Analyses show that the objectives that have been set should not be changed because they have become universal for all countries which reform their energy sector on the concept of open market and responsible energy management. There are problems in the implementation of strategic commitments which should be pursued even more intensively nevertheless.
The most demanding problem for the Croatian energy sector is production of electricity, and for security of supply it is necessary to count on coal-fired and nuclear power plants.
