These days Smiljan, the birthplace of Nikola Tesla, is becoming a large building site. The house where the great scientist was born and the nearby church are being restored and Thematic Park Nikola Tesla is being built, all in preparation for the marking of the 150th anniversary of birth of the Croatian and world`s genius on July 10 this year.
The workers of DP Elektrolika Gospić have undertaken to reconstruct the electric network of Smiljan which consists of six transformation areas or 21 kilometers in total, replace one and construct one new substation. They will also build public lighting in the whole area of Smiljan.
Until now, 70 percent of civil works and about 40 percent of electrical installation works have been completed. Elektrolika expects an early finish of most of the works, by June 15. Regarding the network, about 450 of the 600 wooden poles have been already replaced with those made of concrete.
