On the second day of Crans Montana Forum, held in Zagreb from April 5 to 7, also discussed was the development of energy infrastructure, and Croatia as an intersection of future energy routes
Branko Vukelić, Minister of Economy, Labor and Entrepreneurship, expressed his expectation for Croatia to play an even more important role in the European energy transit. Croatia is already a significant player when it comes to electricity, which is considerably attributable to the reconnection of the two previously separated European electricity systems. The reconnection, he recalled, was managed and overseen from HEP and made possible by constructing the Ernestinovo substation. B. Vukelić announced other planned energy projects which would strengthen Croatia`s connections with the rest of Europe, pointing out in particular the LNG terminal on the island of Krk as a government priority project.
President of HEP Management Board Ivan Mravak stressed that HEP created good conditions for trading by constructing Ernestinovo and Žerjavinec substations. Reliable supply for its customers HEP solves in the first step by connecting and trading and then by constructing its own generating capacity (Lešće hydro power plant, TE-TO Zagreb CHP; Sisak, Osijek and Plomin thermal power plants which are also planned). This would secure adequate amount of electricity for Croatia and for trading.
Significant trading will be made possible by projects planned by the transmission business. HEP is interested in participating i
